The Art of Serving
I’ve gotten serving down to an art. Being personable and professional are key. Suggestive selling and upselling benefits your restaurant and yourself. I am a strong believer that in order to be a good server you must love (or at least like) your job.
Serving is hard. It requires a mental process which is often distrupted. It is also physically demanding as you are carrying as many as 8 plates either on your hand or on your shoulder on a larger tray, called a torpedo.
The job itself covers a wide range of skills. Interpersonal skills, organizational skills. You learn to know people inside out. Their body language, what they need. I have met every type of person in this industry. I have met the needs of probably hundreds of thousands of diners. And I’ll continue to do so til the day I retire cuz serving is what I was meant to do. 🍽️
