What She Said
I’m going to this event on Sunday (my Friday, because I work Wednesday through Sunday) downtown Ottawa that Writer’s Festival is putting on about the book What She Said, which is about equality. This couldn't be more interesting to me as I am a proud feminist and all for equal rights.
✨
The presentation was great! Here are some notes:
- Can we look at how far we still are from equality?
- The criminal justice system does not do a good job of protecting women or upholding their rights
- Femicide is an epidemic but the Conservative government declared epidemics are just for diseases; the Conservatives can't say we have a problem
- We're all just trying to survive under patriarchy
- Writers never retire
- There was a femicide in Ottawa days ago
- The most important thing we can do is stick up for each other, acknowledge there is an issue, and speak up about it
- Speaking up is hard for women because we are conditioned not to ask for things for ourselves
- Encourage girls to be more assertive and encourage boys to me more empathetic
